Debating

The School’s debating program is one avenue for Grammar girls to practise expressing their ideas and opinions in a logical and persuasive manner.

Debaters learn to work as part of a team to achieve shared goals, organise ideas and construct effective arguments.

The School competes in the Queensland Debating Union competition, entering teams at all levels, and students in Years 8 and Year 9 compete in the Brisbane Girls Debating Association competition.

Students have also competed internationally, with Isabel Nolan (2017) one of five Australian secondary school students who represented Australia at the 2017 World Schools Debating Championships in Bali.

Drama

Our comprehensive Drama Program builds our students’ confidence through an exploration of self-expression and creativity. We offer an extensive range of activities and performances across the year.

Auditioned productions

Students studying elective Drama can audition for productions focusing on contemporary theatre, with students having the opportunity to learn first-hand from guest artists and industry professionals.

The Drama Studio

The Drama Studio allows students to participate in weekly workshops, exploring performance skills in a fun, supportive and social environment. Guest artists are often invited to facilitate workshops, culminating in a public performance.

Grammar Dance

An external choreographer leads Grammar Dance and focuses on contemporary and jazz styles of dance so students can enhance their dance skills, flexibility and strength and choreograph routines.

Duke of
Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is a positive and rewarding challenge of self-discovery.

By undertaking four core activities within the Award Framework, and regularly working towards individual goals, participants aged 14 - 24 are equipped and empowered to achieve their personal best, take ownership of their own goals and life choices and become actively engaged within their community and workforce.

Educational Travel

Global thinking is an essential aspect of our approach to learning. Grammar girls are empowered to venture beyond the School’s picket fence to test the unfamiliar and gain different perspectives.

By interacting with people and cultures, technology, texts and contexts other than their own, students practise life-wide learning and gain experiences that shape their decision-making and personal growth.

Options for educational travel include language study tours to visit and study at one of our International Affiliate Schools located in France, China, Germany and Japan; and the School’s biennial trip to the US Space and Rocket Centre, commonly known as ‘Space Trip’.

Students can also attend international and national competitions, including the International Young Physicists Tournament and International Science Olympiad, in addition to musical tours, and cultural and service immersion experiences.
