Safety when arriving and leaving School

Girls Grammar families are reminded to please adhere to the traffic rules and signs outside the School to ensure the safety of our students and assist in the smooth flow of traffic along Gregory Terrace and surrounding streets.

Please be respectful of the Traffic Controllers when using the set-down/pick-up zone when dropping off or picking up your daughter/s.

We encourage parents to be mindful of cyclists upon entering and exiting the set-down/pick-up zone and avoid using the bike lane as an alternative drop-off zone.

The set-down/pick-up zone at the front of the School is under the jurisdiction of Brisbane City Council, not the School, and our Traffic Controllers are there to assist with moving traffic through the zone. The pick-up opening time is 3.20 pm unless prior arrangements have been made through Student Reception.

Entering/exiting the drop-off zone

Parents are asked to take great care when driving into and when exiting the drop-off zone. The area is busy with students exiting cars, accessing bags in the boot and walking into School. Please be vigilant and attentive when driving through this area.

Exiting the car

To keep safe and avoid blocking the right-hand lane through the set-down/pick-up zone, please ensure your daughter exits the car on the left next to the footpath and not into the through lane.

Detour

Parents who arrive to collect their daughters prior to 3.20 pm will be directed to follow a detour, detailed on the School’s traffic flyer.

L plates

If your daughter is learning to drive, we encourage you to avoid the set-down/pick-up zone and drive a little further down Gregory Terrace to swap drivers, to ensure the flow in the set-down/pick-up zone is maintained.

No right turn

When exiting the set-down/pick-up zone you must turn left onto Gregory Terrace. There is a ‘No Right Turn’ sign located at this exit. Several accidents and near-misses have occurred in the past due to drivers ignoring this sign and turning right across oncoming traffic onto Gregory Terrace.

Dark Street/Dark Lane

Parents are asked not to use Dark Lane and Dark Street to avoid queuing on College Road. Residents are finding it extremely difficult to access their homes due to congestion along these streets.

Peak drop-off and pick-up times

The peak time for using the set-down/pick-up zone is in the morning between 8 am and 8.20 am and in the afternoon between 3.10 pm and 3.30 pm. We encourage families to speak to their daughters about the option of using public transport, carpooling, or varying their drop-off and pick-up times outside of peak times to improve traffic flow along Gregory Terrace.

To allow for flow of the set-down/pick-up zone, we encourage parents to arrive 15 minutes after the scheduled finish time of co-curricular events.
