BGGS is excited to announce today that the decision has been made to introduce Years 5 and 6 to Girls Grammar in 2026. As past students, I know this will be of significant interest to you. We look forward to this new era in our School’s history, when we will evolve the educational offering available for girls to meet contemporary expectations.
The educational offering will be of a standard equal to, but distinct from, the secondary experience for which the School is renowned. Years 5 and 6 will be taught in a purpose-designed, five-story Junior School building on Gregory Terrace, opposite the historic Main Building. I encourage you to read more about the School’s plans on the School website, which will continue to be updated as things progress.
On campus, this year there has been a new energy and happiness amongst the girls as they embraced, once again, the full range of curricular and co-curricular activities. There has been such pride amongst the teachers seeing the efforts and progress of their students and, I hope, great satisfaction amongst our parents.
The year began with our annual Interhouse Swimming Carnival, and shortly after, our Interhouse Cross Country, where the indomitable spirit that Grammar girls embody was enthusiastically evident. Our musicians, once again, delighted audiences at the International Women’s Day Concert and Cathedral Concert. And, Foundation Day was a most appropriate occasion to hear from alumna, Josephine Auer (2015), who was awarded the 2023 Rhodes Scholarship—the fourth Grammar Woman to receive this prestigious award. Josephine will use the scholarship to study a Master of Philosophy in Economics at the University of Oxford.
Our reunions are a powerful way of bringing Grammar Women together. Many are hosted here at School, and within the Main Building, the heart of the School for all generations of Grammar girls. We have more than 500 alumnae travelling, sometimes from interstate or overseas, to attend each year and, of course, beyond Spring Hill, the School hosts catch-ups interstate and overseas.
In May, we hosted the first UK reunion in many years, with more than 60 Grammar Women attending an informal and very happy gathering in London.
Past students, through the generations, enjoyed the company of one another and the opportunity to meet women who are forging careers in spaces including the arts, finance and international law, business, research, and digital media. The foundation these women share has propelled them into an astoundingly diverse range of rewarding life paths. Their unique experiences, challenges, and successes reinforce the importance of the School’s commitment to providing girls a genuinely deep education and broad exposure.
