Debating Update

The term has been a busy time for Debating with the Queensland Debating Union (QDU) competition and the Brisbane Girls Debating Association (BGDA) competition running weekly at Girls Grammar, and a variety of other venues in the Spring Hill area.

Already, six QDU teams have earned a place in the Term 3 Finals Series, which culminates in a Grand Final in late August. The other eight teams will compete in the last round of the Preliminary Series to determine their eligibility to continue in the competition. We wish them all the best of luck in their endeavours in this demanding short-preparation round.

This week saw the completion of the last round of the BGDA competition, and Girls Grammar has a team placed in each of the three Final debates to be held at the School on Monday 31 May. All three coaches are previous highly accomplished Girls Grammar debaters: Abbey Grice (2020); Eva Seet (2020); and Bella Busby (2016).

The BGDA Final debates will be followed by a light supper and an awards presentation in the Louise McDonald Room. All student competitors from the season and their families are welcome to attend either or both the debates and the presentation event. We wish the girls all the very best.

The girls who will be competing in the BGDA Final debates are detailed in the table below.
