Giving Days seem to have become somewhat ubiquitous, but we understand their importance, particularly as we seek the philanthropic support of our community to provide opportunities for our current and future Grammar girls. Grammar Women take the outstanding education they receive, and relationships they develop, into the world to shape it in powerful ways for the better.
This year, Giving Day will be held on Tuesday the 27th of August. I hope you will consider making a gift as, whatever the size, it will be a wonderful opportunity to be part of this important day. Your support will be directed to one of three important initiatives: the ‘greening’ of the Cherrell Hirst Creative Learning Centre to provide greater connection to nature and complement the striking architecture of the building; our new Junior School, to ensure it is something truly outstanding for our very youngest students, Years 5 and 6 commencing in 2026; and bursaries to enable students, who would not otherwise have the opportunity, to access a Girls Grammar education. Every donation towards Giving Day will be generously matched by the Parents & Friends Association, the Old Girls Association, and other matching donors who have already committed their support.
Girls Grammar is proud of the philanthropic principles upon which it was founded and, as we approach the celebration of 150 years, the environment of contribution and opportunity we provide continues to be reliant upon the support of our devoted community.
You will no doubt be inspired by the story of Grammar Woman, Kay Brassil (1959) (below). Kay speaks of the lasting impact BGGS had on her appetite for learning and distinguished career, sparking a philanthropic desire to provide others with the same opportunity. This reflection and desire to give back highlights the importance of a Girls Grammar education—preparing students to contribute confidently to the world with a strong sense of purpose.
As Eleanor Roosevelt said: ‘Since you get more joy out of giving joy to others, you should put a good deal of thought into the happiness that you are able to give.’
I hope that you continue to feel a lifelong connection to, and pride in, your School and all that it stands for. Your support helps us to maintain not only a strong sense of affection and loyalty, but to inspire generosity of spirit.
